TUCSON, Ariz - Top-ranked Stanford University (6-0, 1-0 Pac-10)defeated No. 5 Arizona (2-3, 0-1) 140-90 Friday afternoon. The Cardinalhas now won 15 straight dual meets dating back to the 1996-97 season.
Stanford started the meet by going one-two in the 400 medleyrelay. Even though the Wildcats won the next three events, Stanford'sdepth proved decisive. Stanford took all four top places in the 200breaststroke and took the top three in the 200 butterfly. The Cardinal had five individual event-winners: sophomore Rob Canales(San Jose, CA/Bellarmine) in the 200 IM, sophomore Steven Brown (Reno,NV/Reno HS) in the 200 fly, junior Glenn Counts (Kingwood, TX/Kingwood)in the 100 freestyle, senior Tate Blahnik (Temple, TX/Suffern HS) in the200 backstroke and senior Blake Holden (Bay City, TX/Bay City) in the200 breast. The Cardinal won the 400 free relay to close the meet.
Stanford returns to action Saturday when it visits No. 10Arizona State at 1 p.m. Arizona next faces California on Saturday at 1p.m. in Tucson.
