SAN DIEGO, CA - Top-ranked Stanford defeated No. 6 UC Santa Barbara 6-1 and No. 7 San Diego State 8-5 Saturday to reach the semifinals at the UC San Diego Invitational in San Diego, Calif. Freshman Margie Dingeldein (Merced, CA/Merced) scored her first three goals of the season to lead the Cardinal past the Gauchos while sophomore Kelly Shouey (Concord, CA/Carondelet) scored three times in the win over the Aztecs.
Sophomore Dani Bell (Long Beach, CA/Wilson), the Cardinal's leading returning scorer, tallied three times in the two games. She is the only player who has scored in every game for Stanford, which improves to 4-0. After losing its top two scorers from last season, the Cardinal's offense has been extremely balanced this year, as nine of the 11 field players have already scored at least once.
Stanford will meet No. 2 California in the semifinals at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. The third-place game is Sunday at 4:20 p.m., while the championship game is at 5:30 p.m.
