BAKERSFIELD, CA - Senior Stephen Neal, the nation's No. 1-ranked heavyweight wrestler, tied the school record for pins and won his 74th straight to lead 11th-ranked Cal State Bakersfield (13-5-1) to a 28-6 win over Stanford (4-6) in Bakersfield Saturday night. Bakersfield completed an undefeated Pac-10 season at 7-0-1. Stanford junior Zach Zimmerer (Billings, MT/Billings Central) rebounded from his first loss of 1999 with a 9-5 win at 133 pounds to open the match. Senior Shane Cross (Douglas, WY/Douglas) scored a 3-2 win at 174 pounds, but the Roadrunners won the other eight contests.
The Cardinal returns to action Sunday at Cal State Fullerton at 1:00 p.m. Stanford University and Burnham Pavilion will host the 1999 Pac-10 Championships, Feb. 27-28.
