STANFORD, Calif. - For the 16th time in 25 years, the Stanford Cardinal opened its season with a victory, this year with a 94-75 exhibition win over the Armed Forces at Maples Pavilion.
The Cardinal was led by forward Carolyn Moos, who led all players with 25 points. She added nine rebounds and two blocks for a strong defensive effort. Guard Milena Flores added 16 points and eight assists for Stanford.
The Armed Forces was led by Mildred Conston's 17 points.
The game was tied at 44 with 15 minutes left to play, then Stanford outscored its opponents 18-2 in the next five minutes. Karesa Granderson scored seven of her 13 points in that span.
Stanford will host another exhibition game Mon., Nov. 9 vs. Sweden at Maples Pavilion. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
