Hornets Split Doubleheader with Stanford

April 6, 1999

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Sacramento State was shutout 4-0 by the Cardinal in game one. Stanford scored its first run in the second inning on a home run by Jessica Mendoza. The Cardinal then added one more run in the fifth, and scored two more in the top of the seventh.

Marcy Crouch pitched all seven innings for Stanford, giving up four hits and strikiing out 8. Amy Barker got the loss for the Hornets, giving up 10 hits and striking out one. Crouch's record improves to 17-4 and Barker's falls to 5-7.

In game two, Sacramento State's Kelly Lovato was one hit away from a perfect game as the Hornets shutout the Cardinal, 1-0.

Sacramento State scored its one run in the bottom of the first after Jenny O'Leary singled to center field, allowing Katie Cichy to score.

Lovato gave up one hit, and struck out three, improving her record to 11-7. Becky Blevins got the loss for Stanford, giving up 3 hits and striking out 12. Blevins record falls to 13-5 on the season.

Sacramento State's record improves to 18-16 overall, and Stanford's record falls to 30-9.
