STANFORD, Calif. (AP) -
STANFORD, Calif. - With an 82-73 victory over 15th-ranked Oregon tonight, the Stanford women's basketball team still has a shot for a share of the Pac-10 title.
The Cardinal's Bethany Donaphin recorded a career-high 20 points, shooting 7-of-7 from the field and 6-of-8 from the charity stripe. She also pulled down nine rebounds and helped hand the Ducks only their third loss in the conference. With UCLA's win over Arizona State tonight, Oregon and the Bruins are tied for first in the Pac-10 at 14-3. Stanford is one game back, with a 13-4 league record.
That means the Cardinal will need a little help for a share of its six straight Pac-10 crown. If both Oregon and UCLA lose on Saturday while Stanford wins, all three schools will be tied for the top spot.
Donaphin was helped in the scoring department by Regan Freuen, who added a team-high 21 points for the Cardinal. Lindsay Yamasaki tallied nine points, hitting three of five shots from behind the arc before intermission.
Stanford took an early lead to start the night, but Oregon led by as many as seven before heading to the lockerroom with a 35-34 edge. The Cardinal began the second half with a 14-5 run and kept the lead for the rest of the night.
Angelina Wolvert tallied a career-high 26 points to lead the Ducks.
The difference in tonight's contest was seen on the boards, as Stanford finished with a 42-32 rebounding advantage. Five Cardinal players posted at least five rebounds, led by Donaphins nine.
The Cardinal will close out the Pac-10 and regular seasons hosting Oregon State on Sat., March 6 at 1 p.m. Stanford will honor its lone senior on the team, guard Regan Freuen, during pregame ceremonies.
