SEATTLE, Wash. - Senior Sarah Clark (Kamuela, HI/Hawaii Prep) and freshman Logan Tom (Salt Lake City, UT/Highland HS) had 16 kills apiece to lead the seventh-ranked Stanford women's volleyball team to a 15-5, 15-3, 15-10 win over Washington (4-5, 0-1) on Thursday night at the Hec Ed Pavilion Auditorium in the Pacific-10 Conference opener for both teams. The Cardinal (4-1, 1-0) is now 88-3 in Pac-10 play since 1994, and has won 10 of its last 11 conference openers.

Stanford took control early and never looked back as it never trailed in the opening two games. The Cardinal then shook off the hosts late in game three to post its second three-game victory of the season. Stanford outhit Washington .406-.198 in the contest, and finished the match with 58 kills and just 15 hitting errors in 106 attempts.

Clark had a season-high 16 kills and nine digs, along with a .536 hitting percentage, to lead the winners. Tom, the 1998 National High School Player of the Year, had 16 kills, 10 digs, four blocks and three service aces. Since joining the team on Sept. 6 after competing at the World Junior Championships, Tom has racked up 54 kills and 29 digs. The Cardinal also received 10 kills, seven digs and six blocks from senior Kerri Walsh (Saratoga, CA/Archbishop Mitty HS), who played middle blocker for the first time in her collegiate career because of injuries to junior Jennifer Detmer (Thousand Oaks, CA/Thousand Oaks HS) and sophomore Tara Conrad (Torrance, CA/West HS).

"Don (Shaw, Stanford head coach) told us to just concentrate on the fundamentals tonight," Walsh said. "... We came through, played aggressive and had fun out there."

Stanford next visits Washington State (5-2) on Friday at 7 p.m.
