Men's Soccer falls to USF 1-3

Sept. 21, 1999

The Stanford men's soccer team posted a disappointing loss to the University of San Francisco Dons Tuesday night at Nogoesco Stadium. As the fog rolled in, making it hard to see from one side of the field to the other, the Dons took over the game on their home turf, and scored three goals to Stanford's one.

The first goal of the night came from USF forward Gerard Hylkema as a long shot off the left post in the 33rd minute of the game. The next goal wasn't scored until the 52nd minute by Stanford sophomore Lee Morrison off an assist from Ryan Nelsen and T.K. Inbody. USF then scored two more times, both by Alex Akerjordet in the 75th minute and the 81st minute.

Stanford had several more opportunities to score, but couldn't control the ball. The Cardinal took 12 shots to USF's eight, and eight corner kicks to the Dons' two. This loss drops Stanford to a 2-2-1 record.

Head coach Bobby Clark said, "It's disappointing to lose, but the team needs to look forward. Last year, we had two losses at this time in the season, and we ended up in the championship game of the NCAA tournament. It's not the loss that matters, but where the team goes afterwards. A lot of positives came out of this game, and the team needs to take those into the next game and leave the negatives behind."

Stanford will play a home game Saturday, Sept. 25 against the Bradley Braves. Game time is set for 7:30 pm.
