STANFORD, Calif. - Sean Joy scored three goals to pace top-ranked Stanford to an 8-5 victory over fourth-ranked UC Irvine in a MPSF game Sunday at deGuerre Pool.
Joy scored two of his goals in the fourth period to lengthen the Cardinal's lead to 8-4.
Dan Hayes gave UCI a 2-1 lead in the first period with two goals, but two goals by Stanford's Peter Osborn and Michael Lipinski gave the Cardinal a 3-2 lead, and Stanford never trailed again.
Stanford's victory upps his season record to 7-1 and 1-1 in the conference. UC Irvine falls to 2-6 overall and 0-2 in league.
