Women's Basketball Opens Conference Play With a Loss to Arizona State 74-68

TEMPE, Ariz. - The Stanford women's basketball team fell to the Sun Devils 74-68 in the first game of Pacific-10 Conference play.

The Cardinal was led in scoring by sophomore guard Lindsey Yamasaki, who had 18 points and shot 8-of-12 from the field. Sophomore forward Bethany Donaphin posted a double-double with 13 points and a season-high and team-high 12 rebounds.

Stanford dominated the defense, forcing 15 Arizona State turnovers and blocking seven shots to the Sun Devils' three. Offensively, the Cardinal fell a little short, shooting 43 percent from the field to Arizona State's 52 percent.

The loss puts Stanford's record at 7-4, 0-1 in the Pac-10. On the road, Stanford is 1-3. The Cardinal will travel to Tucson to take on the 15th-ranked Wildcats in their second road game of the Conference season on Saturday, Jan. 8 at 1 p.m.
