Stanford Wrestling Defeats Cal Poly, 21-15

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - The Stanford wrestling team picked up aPac-10 Conference wrestling match Friday night, defeating host Cal Poly21-15. Cal Poly fell behind early and never recovered.

The Cardinal led 9-0 after winning the first three matches of the evening.Rudy Ruiz defeated Cal Poly's Jaime Garza 6-3 at 125 to open the match.Zach Zimmerer held off Alberto Garza 10-6 to give the Cardinal a 6-0 lead.Justin Walker made it 9-0 Stanford with a 4-3 win over James Gross. Walkerand Gross were tied after three periods but Walker won with riding time.

Jesse Reta finally put Cal Poly on the board at 149 with a 10-3 win overIsaiah Camp and after trailing the Cardinal 15-3, the Mustangs made onelast run. Steve Strange pinned Harold Penson in just 1:56 into the firstperiod and a 9-2 win by Nate Knutson over Chuck Fairbanks cut the lead downto 15-12.

Stanford finally put Cal Poly away at 197 as Andy Hunter pinned GreggHerrington only 1:34 into the match. Cal Poly's Dan Leahy defeated BradSelby 2-1 in overtime to close out the match.
