Stanford, Calif. -- The second-ranked Stanford men's tennis team defeated No. 30 Washington 5-2 in a Pac-10 match today at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium. The victory pushed the Cardinal's record to 3-0 (1-0 Pac-10) this season.
Stanford took control of the dual match early by sweeping doubles to take a 1-0 lead. At No. 1 doubles, the top-ranked duo of senior Geoff Abrams (Newport Beach, CA) and junior Alex Kim (Potomac, MD) breezed past Jeremy Berman and Andy Posavac of Washington 8-0.
Abrams and Kim continued their dominance in the dual match in singles, as well. Second-ranked Kim defeated No. 69 Matt Hanlin of Washington 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 after the sixth-ranked Abrams dispatched the Huskies' Posavac of Washington 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2. Abrams' victory was his 20th of the season. Sophomore Scotty Scott (Belvedere, CA) continued the Cardinal dominance at the top of the lineup, with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 3 over Washington's Ari Strasberg. Stanford received its fourth singles victory from junior Ali Ansari (Houston, TX) at No. 6. Ansari defeated Mark Woolley of Washington 6-0, 6-0.
The Cardinal will return to action tomorrow as they host No. 52 Oregon at noon at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
