Women's Water Polo Defeats San Jose State 6-3

Fourth-ranked Stanford women's water polo defeated MPSF foe San Jose State 6-3 Saturday, Feb. 19 in the Cardinal's first conference match of the 2000 season.

The Cardinal scored three times in the first quarter, sophomore Kate Pettit, junior Hilary Gallogly and sophomore Margie Dingeldein each scored one goal to give the Cardinal the early lead. The Spartans got on the board in the final minutes of the first period, but could get no closer than 3-2 to the Cardinal's lead.

Pettit led the team in goals scored with two, Dingeldein, Gallogly, Lightner and Shouey each scored one goal. Goalkeeper Jackie Frank defended the net for the Cardinal, and made 13 saves.

The team now holds a record of 5-2, 1-0 in the MPSF. The Stanford women will be back in action next weekend when the squad will compete in the UC Santa Barbara Tournament Saturday, Feb. 26 and Sunday, Feb. 27.
