STANFORD, Calif. - Senior guard Milena Flores registered her 600th career assist and led Stanford with 16 points in Thursday's 78-73 win over Pac-10 foe Washington State. Stanford now holds a record of 17-6, 10-3 in the Pac-10, and remains in second place in the conference race.
Other top Stanford scorers include junior Carolyn Moos who recorded 15 points, freshman Jamie Carey who posted 14 points, including 4-of-9 from behind the three-point line. Sophomore Enjoli Izidor had 14 points.
Washington State took control of the game early, jumping out to a lead as big as 13 points in the first half. The Cardinal was able to narrow the score to 38-37 at halftime. Stanford made a comeback in the second half, and led by as much as 16 points before the Cougars made a 10 point run to narrow the difference to six. Stanford was able to hold on to the lead for the win, 78-73.
The Cougars shot 41.3 from the field, 46.2 from behind the three-point line. Washington State committed 15 turnovers, blocked one shot and had four steals. Stanford shot 46.8 from the field and 40 percent from behind the arc, making 8-of-20. Sophomore Lauren St. Clair, sixth in the NCAA in three-point shooting percentage shot 2-of-5 for 40 percent from behind the arc. Sophomore Cori Enghusen had two blocked shots, and Milena Flores and Enjoli Izidor had two steals each.
The Stanford women now hold a home winning record of 10-1 this year. The Cardinal will host the Washington Huskies on Saturday, Feb. 26 at 2 p.m before traveling to Southern California to take on UCLA on March 3 and USC on March 5.
