STANFORD, Calif. - Freshman Jamie Carey made three 3-pointers today, giving her the top-spot on Stanford's all-time 3-point list. She finishes the regular season with 76 shots from behind the arc, one more than Vanessa Nygaard's mark of 75 set in the 1995-96 season. Sophomore Lauren St. Clair's perfect execution from the floor gave her 14 points to lead the Cardinal in their triumph over the Sun Devils.
Stanford was able to make a strong run in the beginning of the game. A Sarah Dimson jumper three minutes into the first half gave the Cardinal a lead it would never lose. Jamie Carey scored all 11 of her points in the first half to give Stanford a 43-31 lead at the half.
Arizona State was unable to make a dent when play resumed in the second half. The lead continued to grow in the second half as the Cardinal bench scored 38 of Stanford's 48 second half points. The Cardinal shot 22-of-31 (71.0 percent) from the floor in the second half, while holding the Sun Devils to 10-of-27 (37.0 percent) shooting in the second half and 22-of-50 (44.0 percent) shooting for the game. Stanford's 64.4 percent (38-of-59) shooting from the floor for the game is a season-high, and fifth highest in school history.
Stanford also set a new team record for 3-pointers in conference play this season. The Cardinal made 137 3-pointers against Pac-10 opponents, surpassing the 1993-94 squad's 114.
Arizona State's leading scorer, Theresa Jantzen, did no play due to a concussion suffered during practice on Friday. Kitch Kitchen led the Sun Devils with 13 points.
A tribute to Yvonne Gbalazeh, Christina Batastini and Milena Flores before the game gave the fans at Maples Pavilion the chance to say thank you to the seniors in their last home appearance. The Cardinal will be waiting tomorrow for an invitation to the NCAA Tournament that will be announced at 2 p.m. on ESPN's Selection Show. This is expected to be the Cardinal's 13th consecutive Tournament berth.
