Stanford, CA -- With an 18-0 record and a 35-match win streak, the Stanford women's tennis team remained No. 1 in the latest WingspanBank.com National Collegiate Tennis rankings released today by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. The Cardinal has been ranked No. 1 since winning the 1999 NCAA championship last May.
The Cardinal holds a commanding lead over No. 2 Pepperdine in the ITA's average point per match computer formula rankings. Stanford has a 62.87 average, compared to Pepperdine's mark of 43.85. Georgia fell to No. 3 (42.3), Wake Forest is No. 4 (41.45) and Arizona State (37.57) rounds out the Top 5.
Freshman Laura Granville (Chicago, Ill.), who has posted a 32-2 overall record, is ranked No. 2 in the recent poll, while sophomore Marissa Irvin (Santa Monica, Calif.) remained at No. 3 in the singles rankings with a perfect 12-0 record. Sophomore Lauren Kalvaria (Indialantic, Fla.) is the third Cardinal player ranked in the top 10, checking in at No. 7 with a 29-6 singles record.
In doubles, Irvin teams up with senior Teryn Ashley (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) to form the nation's fifth-ranked tandem. The Cardinal duo is 8-1 this season, playing all their dual matches at No. 1. Granville also holds a top 10 ranking in doubles, with sophomore partner Keiko Tokuda (Clifton, NJ), at No. 7.
