Stanford, Calif. - No. 2 Stanford women's water polo defeated MPSF foe No. 8 Long Beach State 13-8 on Friday, March 31 at deGuerre Pool.
The Cardinal jumped out to an early lead, scoring 7 goals to the Beach's 2 in the first half of play. The 49ers attempted a comeback in the fourth period, scoring four goals, but Stanford held on to the lead to win 13-8.
Junior Dani Bell, sophomore Margie Dingeldein and freshman Julie Gardner scored three goals each against Long Beach State. Junior Kelly Shouey scored two, and junior Anne-Marie Keenan and freshman Amy Lightner each scored one goal. Freshman Jackie Frank defended the net for the Cardinal in the first three periods, and made three key saves. Alli Henry took over between the sticks in the fourth period.
Stanford's record improves to 16-4 overall, 7-1 in the MPSF. The Cardinal will host No. 6 San Diego State on Saturday, April 1 in the last home game of the regular season.
