No. 3 Stanford Blanks Hawaii

STANFORD, Calif. - The third-ranked Stanford University men's tennis team (1-0) cruised to a 7-0 victory over visiting Hawaii (2-8) on Tuesday afternoon at Taube Family Tennis Stadium. The Cardinal also defeated the Rainbows 7-0 on Nov. 26 in Honolulu, but the match did not count in the Cardinal's team record.

Senior Geoff Abrams (Newport Beach, CA/Newport Harbor HS) was the only one of Stanford's three nationally ranked players in action on Tuesday. Abrams, who is currently ranked No. 4 in the country by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, defeated Antonio Garcia (Mexico City, Mexico/San Jacinto College Central) 6-3, 6-2 in No. 1 singles to improve to 15-3 on the season.

The four freshman on Stanford's 1999-2000 roster also stood out, as each posted impressive singles victories. David Martin (Key Biscayne, FL/Boca Raton Prep) won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3, Scott Lipsky (Merrick, NY/Bellinore-Kennedy HS) prevailed 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4 Ryan Haviland (Sumter, SC/Sumter HS) won the only three-set match of the afternoon (4-6, 6-3, 6-4) at No. 5 and Carter Morris (Washington, D.C./St. Alban's HS) posted a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 6.

The Cardinal returns to action at the ITA Individual Indoors on Feb. 3-6 in Dallas, Texas. Stanford then returns home for consecutive dual matches against #54 San Diego State (Feb. 11), #64 Georgia Tech (Feb. 12), #26 Washington (Feb. 18) and #65 Oregon (Feb. 19) at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
