Stanford, Calif. - #7 Stanford (22-9, 3-3 Pac-10) travels to Washington State (14-18, 2-4 Pac-10) for a three-game set this Friday-Sunday (April 7-9). Stanford will be traveling to Washington State for the first time since Mark Marquess has been the Cardinal head coach. The series opens with a 3:00 p.m. game on Friday. Games on Saturday and Sunday are scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. The Cardinal currently stands in fourth place in the Pac-10 after dropping two-of-three at Arizona State last weekend. USC and UCLA are tied for the conference lead, while Arizona State is in third between the leaders and the Cardinal. Stanford does have 22 wins this season, which ranks tied for second (with USC) in the conference. Arizona State boasts a league-high 28 victories. Stanford snapped its two-game losing streak with a blowout 18-2 non-conference win over Sacramento State this past Tuesday. The Cougars were swept by USC in their most recent Pac-10 series (March 24-26) but rebounded to win two-of-three over Gonzaga last weekend. The Cougars lost 16-6 to Washington in a non-conference contest versus the Huskies on Tuesday. The teams meet again on Wednesday. Stanford swept a three-game set against the Cougars at Sunken Diamond last season (9-3, 6-5, 9-0). Joe Borchard had a big series last year, going 8-for-12 (.667) with two homers and seven RBI. Brian Sager tossed a three-hit shuout in the series finale, while Jason Young and Austin Coose picked up the other two wins. Washington State leads the all-time series, 13-11.
