No. 2 Women's Water Polo Win a Narrow 7-6 Victory Over No. 6 San Diego State

Stanford, Calif. - In the last home game of the season on April 1, No. 2 Stanford women's water polo defeated sixth-ranked San Diego State 7-6.

The Cardinal jumped out to an early lead, scoring 5 goals to the Aztec's 2 in the first period of play. The Aztecs fought back, scoring four goals in the second half to Stanford's two, but the Cardinal held on for the win.

Freshman Julie Gardner, sophomore Margie Dingeldein and junior Kris Koblik each scored two goals for Stanford, and junior Kelly Shouey scored one goal. Freshman Jackie Frank defended the net for the Cardinal, and made six key saves to help the Cardinal to victory.

Stanford's record improves to 17-4 overall, 8-1 in the MPSF. The Cardinal will be back in action April 7-9, when the team will compete in the MPSF Tournament, hosted by San Jose State.
