San Jose, Calif. - The Stanford women's water polo team went 2-0 on Friday, April 7 in the first day of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Conference Championships, hosted by San Jose State. The Cardinal defeated 7th-ranked Hawai'i 14-2 and routed No. 18 Pacific 18-3.
In the game against Hawai'i, Hilary Gallogly, Dani Bell, Margie Dingeldein, Amy Lightner, Anne-Marie Keenan and Julie Gardner each contributed two goals. Ali Riddell and Kelly Shouey also recorded one goal. Stanford took an early 3-0 lead over the Rainbows in the first period, and never looked back, scoring four goals in the second and third quarters and three more in the fourth to lead them to a 14-2 decision over No. 7 Hawai'i.
In the 18-3 hammering of Pacific, junior Kris Koblik scored four goals. Margie Dingeldein, Dani Bell and Julie Gardner recorded three goals each, while Nicole Huszcz netted two. Anne-Marie Keenan, Amy Lightner and Kelly Shouey posted one goal each to give the Cardinal 18 points against the Tigers.
Stanford now holds a record of 19-4 overall. The Cardinal will go up against San Diego State at 10:45 and top-ranked UCLA at 5:10 on Saturday, April 8 in the second day of the MPSF Championships. Last season, Stanford finished fourth at the MPSF Championships with a record of 3-2.
