Jessica Mendoza Named Pac-10 Softball Player of the Week

Stanford, Calif. -- Sophomore OF Jessica Mendoza (Camarillo, CA/Camarillo HS) has been named Pac-10 Player of the Week for April 25-May 1, announced by the Pac-10 Conference today. This is the third time this season and the second time in as many weeks that Mendoza has captured player of the week honors.

Mendoza went 8-for-16 (.500) in five games last week. She began the week going 3-for-7 with three runs scored, a double and one RBI in Stanford's doubleheader sweep of Sacramento State. She continued her streak against UCLA, banging out two hits, including a double in her first at-bat. Against top-ranked Washington, Mendoza went 3-for-5, with a stolen base, extending her hit streak to seven games. She pushed her season average to .467, which leads the Pac-10 Conference and is on pace to break the Stanford single-season record. Against Pac-10 opposition, Mendoza is hitting .478.

Mendoza, the only player to win three Pac-10 Player of the Week awards this season, and the Cardinal will face San Jose State tomorrow in a doubleheader in San Jose, Calif. The first game begins at 2 p.m.
