May 9, 2000

Stanford, Calif. - The Stanford men's and women's crew teams will compete for the Pac-10 Conference Championship on Sunday, May 14 on Lake Natoma in Rancho Cordova, Calif. Racing is scheduled to begin at 7:50 a.m. Stanford has entered boats in the men's and women's varsity eight, men's and women's junior varsity eight, and men's and women's novice eight. Also, on Saturday, May 13, Stanford will compete for the Pacific Coast Rowing Championship in the women's novice four and the men's novice four.

Competition for conference supremacy will be stiff as five of the top 16 women's teams hail from the Pac-10, including No.1 Washington. The Stanford women are currently ranked 28th. On the men's side, California is ranked first in the nation, Washington is No. 3, and Oregon State is No. 18. The Cardinal men are unranked.

At last year's Pac-10 Championships, Stanford finished fourth in the men's varsity eight grand final while the women finished second in the varsity eight petite final.
