Stanford, Calif. -- The ninth-ranked Stanford softball team (44-15, 8-11 Pac-10) fell to second-ranked Arizona (51-7, 14-4 Pac-10) 9-0 in five innings today at the Stanford Softball Complex.
The Wildcats scored two runs in the first inning and seven in the fourth, capped-off by a three-run home run by Arizona shortstop Allison Andrade. The game was called after the fifth inning because of the Pac-10 eight run rule.
The Cardinal managed three hits, including sophomore 1B Sarah Beeson's 16th double of the season, off of Arizona pitcher Jennie Finch (25-2).
Stanford freshman Maureen LeCocq pitched three and a third innings, allowing eight runs and 10 hits before being relieved by freshman Tori Nyberg. Nyberg allowed a hit and one run to close out the game.
The Cardinal will return to action tomorrow in a doubleheader against Arizona State at the Stanford Softball Complex beginning at 2 p.m. The doubleheader will conclude Stanford's regular-season.
