Indianapolis, IN. - Kelly Shouey and Dani Bell notched three goals each to lead the Stanford women's water polo team to a 17-6 victory over 16-seed Harvard in the first round of the National Championships in Indianapolis, Ind. Stanford will play the winner of the Princeton/Hawaii game in round two of the Championships later today.
Stanford took an early 4-1 lead over the Crimson in the first period of play, and never looked back, outscoring Harvard 5-2 in the second and third periods and 3-1 in the fourth. In addition to the six goals recorded by Shouey and Bell, Ali Riddell, Hilary Gallogly, Margie Dingeldein and Julie Gardner each scored two goals. Gardner is now on a 23 game scoring streak for the Cardinal. Kate Pettit, Kris Koblik and Anne-Marie Keenan each contributed one goal.
Stanford's record improves to 26-4. The Cardinal's win streak extends to 12 games. The National Championships will continue with a second round game later today. Two rounds will be played Saturday, May 6 and the Championship game will be held on Sunday, May 7.
