Corvallis, Ore. -- A run in the top of the seventh inning gave the 10th-rankedStanford softball team (44-14, 8-10 Pac-10) a 2-1 victory over 12th-rankedOregon State (36-17-1, 7-11 Pac-10) today at the Ropes-Fetrow Field. Freshman P pitched a complete game and struckout eight batters to improve herrecord to 22-7. Today's victory gave the Cardinal a weekend three-game sweep ofthe Oregon schools this weekend.
In the Stanford seventh, senior C hit a one-out doubleto left field and then scored on a two-out single by junior 3B that went through the middle of the infield.
Oregon State scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the thirdinning. Singles by Parisa Plant and Brynnen Gutherie gave the Beavers runners atfirst and second, allowing Shelly Prochaska to drive in a run with a single toleft field. Sorensen got out of the jam by striking out the final two batters ofthe inning.
The Cardinal came back quickly, scoring a run in the top of the fourthinning to tie the score. Junior OF led off with a double toleft field and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore SS .Sophomore OF then hit her 19th double of the season to drive inShelburne.
Stanford will conclude its regular-season at home against Arizona andArizona State this upcoming weekend. The Cardinal and Wildcats will play asingle game on Friday at 2 p.m., before Stanford takes on the Sun Devils in adoubleheader on Saturday at 2 p.m.
