STANFORD, Calif. - - Senior forward Scott Leber had two goals and an assist as the Stanford men's soccer team (3-0-0) posted its third consecutive shutout in a 4-0 victory over visiting USF (2-2-2) in a non-conference match at New Maloney Field. The Cardinal, ranked No. 9 in the latest Soccer America poll, has outscored its opponents 15-0 thus far in 2000.
Leber opened the scoring for Stanford at the 12:33 mark, drilling a shot into the lower left corner following a double-assist from Ryan Nelsen and Todd Dunivant. The Cardinal extended its lead to 2-0 in the 27th minute when Corey Woolfolk sent a cross from the left side to Sean Sylvis, who calmly deposited his second goal of the season.
Stanford took a 3-0 advantage shortly after halftime. At the 46:55 mark, Leber fed Woolfolk, who then lobbed a volley over the head of USF goalkeeper Scott Spaulding and into the back of the net. Leber scored his second goal of the match - and team-leading fourth of the year - when he headed in a cross from Dunivant in the 50th minute.
Adam Zapala played the first 77:40 in the net for the Cardinal and recorded two saves before giving way to sophomore Andrew Terris. Spaulding, who also played the first 77:40, finished with ten saves. Conor McNulty had one save for the Dons. On the night, Stanford outshot USF 21-5 and held a 14-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Stanford is next in action on Saturday, Sept. 16th, when it opens play at the Dartmouth Men's Soccer Classic in Hanover, NH with a noon match against Harvard.
