HANOVER, N.H. - The Stanford men's soccer team picked up its fourth straight win Saturday with a 2-0 shutout over Harvard in the opening round of the Dartmouth Men's Soccer Classic. The Cardinal improves to 4-0-0, while Harvard falls to 1-1-0.
Senior Luke Rust broke open a scoreless game with a goal in the 72nd minute, off assists from Scott Leber and Roger Levesque. Levesque crossed the ball to the middle where he found Leber, who fed Rust for the score.
Six minutes later, the Cardinal added an insurance goal as sophomore Johanes Maliza found the back of the net with a shot from 20 yards out. Levesque picked up his second assist of the day on Maliza's goal.
The Cardinal outshot Harvard 18-3, including an 11-1 advantage in the first half. Senior goalkeeper Adam Zapala recorded his fourth shutout win of the season, and has yet to be scored upon in four games.
The tournament concludes Sunday as Stanford faces host Dartmouth at 1:30 p.m. In the other game of the tournament, Dartmouth fell to Boston University 3-0.
