Junior Carolyn Moos led Stanford with 17 points to a decisive 78-58 win over Oregon State Thursday night at Maples Pavilion. The Stanford women's basketball team improved its record to 9-4, 2-1 in the conference with the win over the Beavers. The Cardinal remains perfect in Pac-10 Conference home openers.
Oregon State started out solid, taking an early 8-1 lead in the first two minutes of play. But the Cardinal came back strong, with a 9-3 point run, led by three pointers from Lindsey Yamasaki and Jamie Carey. The first half ended with Stanford in the lead, 33-29.
The Cardinal put together an excellent second half, shooting 48 percent from the field to the first half's 39 percent. Stanford's three-point game dominated, shooting 53 percent for the game to Oregon State's eight percent.
The Cardinal had four players record point totals in double digits, including Moos with a team-high 17, Milena Flores with 13, Yamasaki with 12 and Cori Enghusen with 12. Flores drained 3-of-3 from behind the three point line, and Yamasaki put away 3-of-4 from behind the arc.
In the battle of the boards, the Cardinal outrebounded the Beavers 43-34, with sophomore Bethany Donaphin pulling down a team-high 12 rebounds. The win extended Stanford's home unbeaten streak against the Beavers, and improved the Cardinal's lead in the all-time series against Oregon State to 23-5.
Stanford will remain at home to continue Pacific-10 Conference play against the 24th-ranked Oregon Ducks Saturday, Jan. 15 at 1 p.m. in Maples Pavilion. Stanford is 23-4 in the all-time series against Oregon State, and 2-1 over ranked opponents so far this season. Oregon carries a 11-3, 2-0 conference record into Saturday's game.
