Los Angles -- The 13th-ranked Stanford men's volleyball team lost to fifth-ranked USC 15-7, 15-7, 15-10 in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match today in Los Angeles. The Cardinal fall to 2-4 overall (2-4 MPSF) while USC improves to 6-1 overall (4-0 MPSF).
For the first time this season, freshman Curt Toppel did not reach the 20-kill plateau in a match. Toppel finished the night with 8 kills on 22 total attacks for a .045 hitting percentage.The Trojan's held Stanford to a .177 hitting percentage for the game and a game-low .083 percentage in the second game.
Stanford received 10 kills from junior middle blocker Brett Youngberg and freshman outside hitter Seth Ring. Junior Josh Lukens led the Cardinal with 39 assists, while sophomore Marcus Skacel and Youngberg each recorded 5 digs.
The Trojans were led by Brook Billings 15 kills and the 47 assist performance of Donald Suxho. USC hit .432 for the match and recorded nine assists.
