The Stanford men's volleyball team advanced to the semifinals of the 36th Annual UCSB/Elephant Bar Collegiate with victories today over California and host UC Santa Barbara.
The Cardinal, the tournament's sixth seed, opened play with a 15-8, 15-7, 15-12, victory over 11th-seeded California. The victory moved Stanford into a second round match-up with the third-seeded Gauchos. Stanford disposed of UCSB in a three-game (15-13, 15-2, 15-12) victory.
Stanford will face second-seed Pepperdine tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. Top-seed USC and fifth-seed Loyola Marymount also reached tomorrow's semifinal round.
Both of today's games were not counted towards the team's season records or statistics. The tournament only counts the championship and third-fourth place matches towards a team's record.
