Field Hockey Wins First Round Of NorPac Championships

St. Louis, Mo. -- No. 3 Stanford (10-10) shutout No. 6 St. Louis (5-13) in the Cardinal's opening round match of the NorPac Conference Tournament in a 7-0 win. Stanford has defeated the hosting Billikens twice this season at their home field at the Anheuser-Busch Centre.

Erica Swesey opened up the scoring today with 31:05 left in the first half and tacked on a second goal with 14:43 remaining in the first period. Melissa Stai tallied two goals to give the Cardinal a 4-0 lead at halftime. Amrit Chima, Christina Williams, and Keely Machmer-Wessels rounded out the scoring to give the Cardinal a 7-0 victory.

Stanford will face the winner of game No. 3 between Appalachian St. and SW Missouri St., on Friday Nov. 3 at 3 p.m. Stanford defeated Appalachian St. earlier this season, 3-0. Stanford's game against SW Missouri St. came down to the second round of penalty strokes.

St. Louis will face the loser of game No. 3 on Friday, Nov. 3 at 10 am.
