PALM DESERT, Calif. - The Stanford men's golf team is in first place after 36-holes of The Prestige at the Desert Willow Golf Course (Par 72, 7,056 yards). The Cardinal shot back-to-back six-under par rounds for a 564 (-12) total. Pepperdine is two strokes off of the lead while UC Irvine (567), Northwestern (572) and Washington (575) round out the top five.
The Cardinal has three golfers in the top 15 individually. Senior Jimmy Lee (Coral Springs, FL) is in second place after carding a 69 and a season-best 68 for a 136 (-7). Junior Philip Rowe (Cornwall, UK) is tied for seventh after rounds of 72 and 70, while senior Eric Dahlberg (Fort Worth, TX) is tied for 12th with a 144 (74-70).
Jim Seki (Honolulu, HI) and George Downing (Santa Barbara, CA) are both in 26th. Seki opened with a 69, then came back with a 78 in round two. Downing posted a 75 and a 72. Ron Won (Irvine, CA) shot an 81 and a 77 and is tied for 82nd.
Pepperdine's Alex Rodger has a one-stroke lead over Lee after shooting a 64 in the second round for a 136 total.
The 15-team tournament concludes Tuesday.
