Stanford vs. Duke

Recap|Box Score|Notes

Stanford head coach Mike MontgomeryOpening statement -
"That's pretty special, I don't think that it has hit me to beat a caliber of team like that (Duke) in this kind of match-up with this kind of crowd particularly after getting off to the start that we did, that was really something special."

On Duke -
"I have all the respect and admiration in the world for them. To beat them is very special."

On the game in the first half -
"First half, I thought that maybe we weren't quite ready to play at that level. I don't think that we have had that kind of a game yet. They came out prepared, and we came out and made mistakes, we turned the ball over. Other than Casey (Jacobsen), nobody was really making plays. We looked unsettled and nervous and not quite sure of our self."

"I thought that the five point swing right before the we went in at half time might have been critical."

The second half -
"Boy they really battled. I thought that the bench was better. All of a sudden, we started attacking them instead of them attacking us. We had a little more confidence and with that, they started missing shots and we started making shots. It looked like the whole game changed."

On the final minutes of the game -
"One of the coaches pointed out that we scored on our final 14 possessions, that is spectacular against a team like that."

On the last shot -
"It was appropriate that Casey made the last shot with the type of game that he had. We wanted the ball in Casey's hands if we could."

Comparison to last year's win over Duke -
"This was a lot like last year where it came down to the last guy standing. It was a fabulous win for us. It hasn't really sunk in yet for us to win like this against such a great team. I have great respect for the Duke program."

Stanford guard Casey JacobsenAbout the last play
"Jason Williams gave me the left side and I took the lane. Actually one of my favorite shots is the bank. I took it and made it."

The biggest shot of your career?
"Undoubtedly. I played so poorly vs. North Carolina in the tournament last year. I took this game personally because people on the East Coast have not seen me play since the North Carolina game. I wanted to set the record straight with myself and do anything I could to help us beat a team like Duke. Now there will be a new No. 1 and we'll see who it is."

On his thoughts coming into the game
"My thoughts coming into this game were to play hard and have no regret. You only get so many opportunities to play teams like Duke. Before the game, we just told ourselves that we had to bring it all."

On the crowd
"I've not played before a crowd like this - that was for us. It was so loud in the arena I couldn't even hear myself. We play for the fans and the hard work that we do. I'm so glad for all of the fans who supported us - I think they saw a good game."

Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski"It was a heck of a game. Our kids were ready to play. They played their hearts out. We played winning basketball, but we didn't convert."

"That was the best offensive rebounding we have had, but we missed four dunks and four layups. Stanford hung in there. We had a chance to break the game open, but we didn't convert. Stanford played magnificent at the end."

"The missed plays during the game cost us the game. We gave Stanford the momentum."

"I have to give Stanford credit for hanging in there. They kept their poise and made the plays. Their bench also gave them some great minutes."

"I'm proud of my guys. They had great heart and great desire."

"I think both teams have great basketball players. It was a heck of a performance by both teams. Hopefully, both teams stay healthy through the end of the season."
