STANFORD, Calif. (AP) - Lindsey Yamasaki scored 16 points as No. 17 Stanford handed No. 23 Utah its first loss of the season, 72-58 on Saturday.
Bethany Donaphin and Nicole Powell each added 11 points as Stanford (6-4) improved to 6-0 at home and snapped a three-game losing streak.
Lindsay Herbert scored 12 points to lead Utah (11-1), which was off to its best start in three years. The Utes entered the game as the nation's top defensive team, but allowed a season-high in points.
Stanford limited Utah to 10 points in the final 13:52 of play.
Powell, a 6-foot-2 freshman, became Stanford's third starting point guard of the season when it was learned Saturday that freshman Susan King will miss the rest of the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee.
The injury occurred Wednesday night against Oklahoma. Sophomore Jamie Carey was forced to retire from the sport on Nov. 7 because of recurrent concussions.
Yamasaki hit a jumper to open the second half to give Stanford its first lead since early in the game, but the Utes responded with a 14-5 run to take a 48-40 edge six minutes later.
The Cardinal regained the lead with 11:15 remaining to play on a 3-pointer by Enjoli Izidor, who scored seven points during a 13-0 run that extended Stanford's lead to 53-48.
Utah was held without a field goal for over eight minutes during the Cardinal's rally.
