Stanford, Calif. -- The top-ranked and defending NCAA champion Stanford women's tennis team improved its record to 6-0 this season after defeating the University of the Pacific 9-0 today at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium. The victory over the Tigers marks the third time this season Stanford has shutout its opponent.

Second-ranked freshman Laura Granville (Chicago, IL) made her third appearance of the season at No. 1 singles and walked away from the match with a 6-2, 6-1 win versus 47th-ranked Susanne Bertel of Pacific. Granville has posted a 16-2 singles record this season.

The closest match of the day came at No. 3 singles, where Pacific's Anouk Sinnige pushed sophomore Lauren Kalvaria (Indianlantic, FL) to three sets. Kalvaria, ranked No. 13, eventually closed out the match with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 victory giving her a team-leading 17th singles win of the year.

Kalvaria made up for the extra set of singles play by teaming with sophomore Gabriela Lastra (Reno, NV) to shutout the Pacific duo. The 27th-ranked Stanford doubles team defeated the Tigers' Christiane Barthel and Diane D'Audney 9-0 at No. 1.

Stanford will play its next dual match on February 9 against 23rd-ranked Fresno State at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium beginning at 1:30 p.m. Four members of the Stanford women's tennis team will take part in the Rolex National Collegiate Tennis Championships on February 3-6 in Dallas.
