Stanford, Calif. - Third-ranked Stanford (6-1) held on for an exciting 153-146 victory over #4 California (8-2) in a women's swimming and diving meet on Saturday at deGuerre Pool. The Cardinal came up with a win in the final event of the day in the 400 free relay to secure the dramatic win. Both teams had a pair of swimmers with multiple individual victories. Misty Hyman (200 free, 200 fly) and Jessica Foschi (500 free, 1000 free) each won twice for the Cardinal, while Staciana Stitts (100 breast, 200 breast) and Joscelin Yeo (100 free, 100 fly) were double winners for California.
The meet featured five swimmers with automatic NCAA qualifying times, three by California and a pair by the Cardinal.
Yeo had perhaps the most impressive showing of the day with a season-best blistering time of 53.27 in the 100 fly. Stitts posted a 1:01.65 in the 100 breast, just off her best time of the year. Cal's Elli Overton swam a season-best and automatic qualifying time of 2:00.21 in the 200 IM.
Hyman posted an automatic qualifying time of 1:58.04 in the 200 fly, while Catherine Fox looked strong in the 100 back with a season-best and automatic qualifying time of 54.52 in the 100 back. Fox's time was the lowest by any Cardinal in the 100 back this year.
