Stanford, Calif. -- The second-ranked Stanford men's tennis team defeated 61st-ranked Georgia Tech 4-0 today on the indoor court at the Taube Family Tennis Center. The Cardinal (2-0) and Yellow Jackets were forced to play one match at a time indoors because of rain.
Playing at No. 1 singles for the first time this season, junior Alex Kim (Potomac, MD) recorded his team-leading 19th victory of the season with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Georgia Tech's Roman Coirault. After Kim's victory, senior Geoff Abrams (Newport Beach, CA) stepped up and gave the Cardinal a 2-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Roger Anderson of Georgia Tech at No. 2 singles.
Junior Scotty Scott (Belvedere, CA) added to the Stanford lead with a victory at No. 3 singles. Scott defeated the Yellow Jackets' Robert Wright 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3, before freshman David Martin (Key Biscayne, FL) sealed the victory. Martin beat Jason Jeong of Georgia Tech 6-3, 6-3.
The Cardinal will return to action with two Pac-10 matches next week at the Taube Family Tennis Center. Stanford will face No. 27 Washington on February 18 at 1:30 p.m. and No. 62 Oregon on February 19 at noon.
