Stanford Men's Volleyball Wins Conference Match Versus No. 9 LMU

Stanford, Calif. -- The Stanford men's volleyball team stunned No. 9 Loyola Marymount 15-8, 15-4, 15-5 today at Maples Pavilion in front of 350 fans. The Cardinal (5-7, 5-5 MPSF) hit .483 for the match and held the Lions (2-5, 1-5 MPSF) to a .231 hitting percentage.

Sophomore outside hitter Marcus Skacel (Laguna Niguel, CA) paced the Cardinal with a career-high 25 kills in the victory. Skacel recorded 9 kills in the opening game and 16 in the final two games for a season-best .647 hitting-percentage.

After taking game one 15-8, the Cardinal went on a 14-0 run in the second game before the Lions held off match-point to score four points. Stanford would finish the game out at 15-4. Stanford tallied 22 kills on 33 attempts for a .545 hitting-percentage in the game.

Loyola Marymount's Reid Priddy paced the Lions with 27 kills, while Stephen Dunne had 53 assists in the loss.

Stanford freshman middle blocker Curt Toppel (Pacific Palisades, CA), who leads the nation in kills-per game average at 8.41, recorded 16 kills in the match and tied a season-high with 13 digs. Junior setter Josh Lukens (San Diego, CA) recorded 58 assists.

The Cardinal will return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 22 when they host UC Irvine at 7 p.m. in Maples Pavilion.
