Stanford Men's Volleyball Takes Out Pacific in Conference Play

Stanford, Calif. -- Led by freshman middle blocker Curt Toppel's (Pacific Palisades, CA) match-high 39 kills, the Stanford men's volleyball team defeated Pacific 15-10, 15-13, 11-15, 15-6 in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match today at Maples Pavilion. The Cardinal improved its record to 7-7 overall and 7-6 in the MPSF, while Pacific dropped to 5-7 overall and in the MPSF.

Toppel, who leads the nation in kills-per game at 8.22, has now recorded 30 or more kills in six of the last seven matches, including a season-high 48 kills versus San Diego State on February 11. To reach 39 kills, Toppel had 68 total attacks and a 45.6 hitting percentage.

Sophomore Marcus Skacel (Laguna Niguel, CA) continued his hot streak with his eighth consecutive match with more than 10 kills. Skacel recorded 14 kills against the Tigers and reached his third consecutive double-double with 12 digs. Junior setter Josh Lukens (San Diego, CA) had a game-high 87 assists for the Cardinal.

Pacific had a total of four players with 10 or more kills in the match, led by Vladimir Andric's 27 and Darrell Dilmore's 21. Christopher Tamas led the Tigers with 83 assists, while Aaron Wachtfogel had a match-high 16 digs.

The Cardinal will return to action on Friday, March 3, when California visits Maples Pavilion for a 7 p.m.
