STANFORD, Calif. - Senior guard Milena Flores led the Cardinal to a 69-56 victory over USC Saturday afternoon, scoring a career-high 21 points against the Women of Troy. Stanford, currently tied for first place in the Pac-10 with UCLA, improved to 14-5, 7-2 in the Pac-10. USC drops to 8-11, 3-6 in the conference.
Other top Stanford scorers include sophomore Carolyn Moos, who posted a double-double against USC with 10 points and 11 rebounds, and freshman Jamie Carey, who recorded 14 points.
USC was led in scoring by Tashara Carter with 19 points, and Erica Mashia, who recorded 16.
The game remained a close one throughout, with Stanford leading by one point, 30-29, at halftime. Both teams had 21 turnovers, and in the battle of the boards, Stanford had 34 to USC's 32 rebounds. Fouls were the deciding factor, with USC recording 21 to Stanford's 16, and the Cardinal shooting 24-of-28 from the line while the Women of Troy shot 11-of-14.
The Stanford women will defend their top position in the Pac-10 when they travel to Oregon next weekend to take on the Oregon Ducks Thursday, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. and the Oregon State Beavers Saturday, Feb. 12 at 7 p.m.
