Stanford, Calif. -- The 13th-ranked Stanford men's volleyball team fell to 8-10 overall and 7-8 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation after falling to third-ranked Southern California (17-4, 12-3 MPSF) 15-13, 13-15, 15-4, 15-10 today at Maples Pavilion.
Freshman middle blocker Curt Toppel (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) recorded his eighth match with 30 or more kills after a 32-kill performance against the Trojans. Toppel leads the nation in kills per game at 8.53. For the match, Toppel hit 24.6 percent on 69 attacks and 15 hitting errors.
Stanford won game two behind Toppel's15 kills in the game. The Cardinal pulled away from the Trojans after the match had been tied at 9 for a 15-13 decision. The Cardinal recorded a team-high 27 kills in the game.
Junior Eli Fairfield and senior setter Donald Suxho led USC. Fairfield had a team-high 29 points for USC, while Suxho recorded 94 assists and 12 digs in the contest.
Stanford will conclude its regular season home schedule tomorrow night in Maples Pavilion at 7 p.m. against top-ranked Long Beach State.
