STANFORD, Calif. - Four Stanford starters scored in double figures for the Cardinal, but Arizona won the battle of the boards handing the Cardinal their first home loss by a Pac-10 opponent this season. Carolyn Moos, Jamie Carey and Milena Flores each contributed 15 points and Lauren St. Clair added 12 points, but the Wildcats outrebounded the Cardinal 40-23.
Arizona's Elizabeth Pickney led her team with nine rebounds. Jamie Carey was Stanford's leader with five rebounds.
The game was close throughout, but with 11:50 left in the game, the Cardinal relinquished the lead and never got it back. With five lead changes in the first 4:07, neither team could gain control. Freshman guard Jamie Carey hit five 3-pointers, one of them at the 10:27 mark in the first half to give Stanford a lead they would hold for 15 minutes. Stanford went to the locker room with a four point advantage, 29-25.
The Wildcats came out strong in the second half. Despite being down by as much as nine points during the first half (27-18 @4:32), Arizona was able to fight back and win the game. Stanford saw its closest margin disappear with 8:22 to go and they trailed by at least six points for the remainder. Junior Carolyn Moos led the last push for the Cardinal, scoring six of her 15 points in the final 29 seconds of the contest.
Stanford now holds a record of 19-8, 12-5 in the Pac-10. The Cardinal will host Arizona State on Saturday, March 11 at 1 pm at Maples Pavilion in their final regular season home game this season.
