NICKNAME
On the team, it's Stew (short for Martha Stewart, anyone who knows me well understands why it fits well). With my family and really close friends, it's Shelby.

FAVORITE FOOD
Anything Mexican! I also love chocolate.

FAVORITE MUSIC ARTIST
Dave Matthews.

FAVORITE SPORTS TEAM
Dallas Cowboys or Chicago Bulls.

FAVORITE PLACE TO HANG OUT
The beach! I love sun, sand and waves!

BEST BOOK YOU HAVE READ
"The Giving Tree" by Shel Silverstein. The book is simply written but illustrates a profound issue that everyone can understand and relate to.

FAVORITE CLASS
At Stanford, it would have to be Cancer and the Immune System. Biology stuff like that fascinates me.

FAVORITE HOBBY
It would have to be sleeping or laying on the beach in the sun.

FAVORITE VIDEO GAME
I don't really have one, but if I had to choose I'd have to say Wrestle Mania 2000 for Nintendo 64.

FAVORITE MOVIE
Gone With the Wind or Good Will Hunting.

FAVORITE TV SHOW
Dawson's Creek.

FAVORITE NON-VOLLEYBALL ACTIVITY
Sleeping (again), or maybe reading a good book, or spending time with friends.

ONE WORD THAT DESCRIBES YOU
Trustworthy.

IF YOU WERE GOING ON A ROAD TRIP AND COULD ONLY TAKE ONE CD, WHICH ONE WOULD YOU TAKE
A mixed CD of all my favorite songs.

BEST VACATION OR TRIP YOU HAVE EVER TAKEN
My family and I spent nine days in Hawaii a couple summers ago. It was absolutely beautiful.

HOW DO YOU PREPARE BEFORE A GAME? DO YOU HAVE ANY GAMEDAY SUPERSTITIONS?
I have lucky underwear (I'm ashamed to say) that I wear for important matches and our team always has to do what we call "the stomp" in our locker room before each game.

IF YOU COULD PLAY ANOTHER SPORT AT STANFORD, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Probably swimming (I used to love it as a kid) or perhaps basketball.

BEST THING ABOUT BEING A STUDENT-ATHLETE AT STANFORD
I have a couple of them! Being a part of a program that can expect to excel each year because of the talented athletes that always come, being on a team and playing each day with a group of the best volleyball players in the nation, knowing that not only am I part of a program that competes for the national championship each year, but that I've been given the opportunity to get an education at one of the top universities in the world.

BEST PART ABOUT YOUR GAME
I think it's exciting how big a factor momentum can play in a match. I also love the defensive aspect of volleyball - digging a really hard attack from an opponent is a really incredible feeling.

SOMEWHERE YOU HAVE NEVER BEEN THAT YOU WOULD MOST LIKE TO VISIT
I'd like to take a cruise through the Caribbean some day.

WHAT DO YOU SEE YOURSELF DOING IN 10 YEARS
I see myself finished with medical school and starting to establish myself in a medical practice somewhere. I also see myself married and maybe thinking about starting a family.

WHAT HAS BEEN THE HIGHLIGHT OF YOUR ATHLETIC CAREER TO THIS POINT
Getting to Stanford is probably the highlight so far. Also being in the Final Four and National Championship last year was a really big deal.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO IN YOUR SPARE TIME?
Hang out with good friends and sleep a lot.

MOST INFLUENTAL PERSON IN YOUR LIFE
Definitely my parents - they've been incredible role models.

WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE TO ATTEND STANFORD
Everyone says the same old "it has the best mix of athletic and academic excellence", and I guess I agree with it. But, I also chose to come here because it was in California (my home state) and the campus is absolutely beautiful.

WHAT IS SOMETHING ABOUT YOURSELF THAT FEW PEOPLE KNOW
I'm absolutely terrified of heights.

WHAT WOULD YOU WANT PEOPLE TO SAY ABOUT YOU WHEN YOU LEAVE STANFORD?
I'd like people to think that I worked hard and gave my all each and every day, and that I was continually dedicated to my teammates and the program.

FAVORITE BREAKFAST CEREAL
Life or Cinnamon Life.

COKE OR PEPSI?
Definitely Coke, hands down.

WATCH SURVIVOR? WHO DID YOU WANT TO WIN?
I can't believe how ridiculously addicting that show was, but I must admit I watched it! I wanted Rudy to end up winning the money. He really should have been the one to win.

PAPER OR PLASTIC?
Plastic
