Due to lighting and thunderstorms, the remaining games in the NFCA Leadoff Classic were cancelled today.
No. 9 Stanford was playing No. 19 South Carolina when lightning interrupted play. The score was tied at 0-0 after five complete innings of play when the game was suspended. Dana Sorensen had a no-hitter going through five innings with 10 strikeouts.
After an hour and a half wait, all games were cancelled for the rest of the tournament as a thunderstorm moved into the area.
The Cardinal entered today's game against the Gamecocks as the top-seed in the Gold Bracket. Three teams entered the bracket with undefeated records - Stanford, California and Alabama. Stanford went 4-0 with wins over Illinois-Chicago, No. 6 LSU, Seton Hall and Kansas.
Stanford was declared the Gold Bracket winner by virtue of being the highest-seeded team (No. 1) to reach the semifinals.California was second (No. 2 seed) and Washington third.
The Cardinal are next in action at the Utah Invitational in St. George, Utah.
