Five Goals From Margie Dingeldein Leads No. 1 Women's Water Polo To 14-4 Win Over UC Irvine

IRVINE, Calif. - Junior Margie Dingeldein exploded for five goals as the No. 1-ranked Stanford women's water polo team defeated UC Irvine 14-4 on Sunday afternoon in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation game. With the win, the Cardinal moves to 19-0 overall and 8-0 in MPSF play while the Anteaters drop to 1-16 (1-6).

The game stayed competitive in the first half as UC Irvine scored two goals in the opening quarter and was down by just one late in the second quarter. The Cardinal took a 5-3 lead into halftime and would outscore UCI 9-1 after the break. Three goals in the third and six in the fourth gave Stanford its third win in as many days.

Freshman Brenda Villa had three scores for the Cardinal and six other players tallied one goal in the game. Sophomore goalkeeper Jackie Frank recorded six saves in the net.

In the three-game road trip to Southern California, Stanford outscored opponents 42-12. Villa had eight goals on the weekend and Dingeldein had six.

The Cardinal returns home for a critical MPSF game with No. 2 UCLA. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. at the Avery Aquatic Center.
