April 14, 2001

STANFORD, Calif. -- The No.1-ranked Stanford women's water polo team improved its record to 22-0 on the year with a 7-1 non-conference win over No. 12 UC Davis on Saturday afternoon at the Avery Aquatic Center. The Aggies fell to 15-9 with the loss.

Junior Margie Dingeldein put the Cardinal up on the board early with a goal at the 5:53 mark in the first quarter. Junior Ellen Estes then recorded a goal with four seconds left in the first period. Dingeldein and Estes both chalked up another goal during the second quarter to give Stanford the 4-0 halftime lead.

Freshman Brenda Villa got onto the board with three goals in two minutes to open Stanford's lead to seven. With the hat trick, Villa has recorded 59 goals on the season. The Aggies tallied their goal with 1:25 left in the game on a shot from Melissa Agee, but the 7-1 lead was insurmountable for Davis.

In the goal, sophomore keeper Jackie Frank notched eight saves while the Aggies Alexis Muecke had six.

The Cardinal is next in action on Friday, April 20 at 7 p.m. when UC Santa Barbara visits The Farm for Stanford's last regular season home match of the year.
