INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Stanford University's Taube Family Tennis Stadium has been selected as a host site for the first two rounds of both the men's and women's 2001 NCAA Division I Tennis Championships. The top-ranked and top-seeded Cardinal women will host the first and second rounds on Friday, May 11 and Saturday, May 12, while the top-ranked and top-seeded men will be at home on Saturday, May 12 and Sunday, May 13.

All-tournament passes can be purchased in advance by calling 1-800-STANFORD or by stopping by the Stanford Ticket Office at gate 2 of Stanford Stadium. All-tournament reserved passes are $20, while adult general admission passes are $14 and student/children/senior general admission passes are $8. Single day passes can be purchased beginning on Friday and are $8 for reserved seats, $6 for adult general admission and $4 for student/children/senior general admission.

The NCAA Committee selected 16 sites for both the men's and women's tournaments. The winners of each four-team sub-regional site will advance to the NCAA Team Championships. The women's team championship will be held on May 17-20 in Stone Mountain, Georgia, while the men's will be held May 19-22 in Athens, Georgia. The selection of the teams is based on won-lost record, strength of schedule, and eligibility and availability of student-athletes.

The Cardinal women (24-0), who finished second in the nation last season, opens play on Friday, May 11 at 2:00 p.m. against unranked Boston University (11-7). The first match on Friday will be an all-Southeastern Conference battle between 26th-ranked LSU (14-9) and 34th-ranked Mississippi (9-12) at 10:00 a.m. The winner of those two matches will play on Saturday, May 12 at 2:30 p.m. for a berth in the NCAA Team Championships in Stone Mountain. Stanford received the top-seed in the 64-team bracket, followed by (in order of seed) fourth-ranked Georgia, second-ranked Duke, fifth-ranked Florida, third-ranked Tennessee, sixth-ranked Vanderbilt, ninth-ranked Northwestern and 10th-ranked Arizona State.

The defending NCAA Champion Cardinal men (21-1) open defense of their crown against Northern California rival and unranked Pacific (14-10) on Saturday, May 12 at noon. In the other first round match, 31st-ranked Florida (9-16) faces 37th-ranked Oklahoma State (15-8) at 9:00 a.m. The winner of those two matches will play on Sunday, May 13 at noon for a berth in the NCAA Team Championships in Athens, Georgia. Stanford received the top-seed in the tournament, followed by (in order of seed) third-ranked UCLA, second-ranked Georgia, sixth-ranked Texas A&M, fourth-ranked Texas Christian, fifth-ranked Duke, eighth-ranked Southern Methodist and seventh-ranked Tennessee.
