May 11, 2001

Box Score

Corvallis, Oregon - No. 14 Oregon State scored one run in the second inning and held on for a 1-0 win over the No. 4 Stanford softball team in Pacific-10 Conference action on Friday at the OSU Softball Complex. The Cardinal falls to 46-13-1 overall and 9-10 in conference play, while the Beavers improve to 41-22-1 and 8-10 in the Pac-10 to open the final weekend of regular season.

Steph Adams' two-out solo home run in the bottom of the second was the difference in the game. She sent the 2-1 pitch over the centerfield fence for her team-leading seventh shot of the year.

The Cardinal had runners in scoring position in the first, the third and the sixth. Jessica Mendoza hit a double down the right field line in the first and stole third but a strikeout and a pop up ended the inning. In the third, Jenni Shideler and Mendoza both walked but a fly out stranded both runners. Then in the sixth, Sarah Beeson's one-out double off the centerfield fence was wasted with a ground out and a strikeout.

Dana Sorensen made her first start since April 14 and pitched six innings. She struck out nine and walked none in the losing effort. She falls to 21-3 on the year.

For the Beavers in the circle, Crystal Draper pitched the complete game shutout to improve to 27-10. It was her 11th shutout of the year as she struck out five and walked three.

The Cardinal continues its final Pac-10 road trip with a doubleheader at Oregon on Saturday. The first game is set to begin at 12:00 p.m.
