STANFORD, Calif. - Pacific scored four runs in the fifth and never looked back as the third-seeded Tigers defeated fourth-seeded Central Michigan, 8-0 in six innings, in the second game of the NCAA Regional at Stanford's Boyd & Jill Smith Family Stadium on Thursday afternoon. The Tigers improve to 48-11 while the Chippewas fall to 36-19. Central Michigan will next play on Friday at 1:30 p.m. against the winner of a game later this afternoon. Pacific plays again on Friday at 11:00 a.m. against Nebraska.
Pacific broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth. Adrienne Radajczak led off the inning with a walk. A sacrifice bunt from Estee Okumura advanced the runner before Kelly Lowry singled to left center. Then, Boni Kading's sacrifice fly scored Radajczak for 1-0 lead.
The Tigers broke open the game with four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Pacific scored all four of the runs with two outs. Barbara Moody singled up the middle to start things and Natalie Farmer followed with a base hit to center. Then Estee Okumura came through with a clutch single to left. Okumura's base hit and a throwing error scored three runs. Lowry kept the rally going with an RBI single to right, scoring Okumura for a 5-0 Pacific lead.
Pacific took an eight-run lead in the sixth to end the game. Again with two outs, the Tigers rallied for consecutive singles to set up Ratajczak homer. Ratajczak sent the 2-2 pitch over the 200-foot leftfield fence for her sixth home run of the year.
Cindy Ball pitched the complete game shutout for the Tigers. She scattered three hits while striking out eight. She improves to 31-7 with the win.
For the Chippewas in the circle, Amber Pulchalski started and went 4 2/3 innings. She gave up five runs on five hits to take the loss. She falls to 25-8 on the year. Jenni Rasmussen came on in relief and went an inning, giving up four runs on three hits.
Pacific had nine hits in the game, including two each from Moody, Farmer and Okumura. Ratajczak had three RBI while Okumura had two.
